Another key development in Polestar’s global growth was the appointment of August Wu as the new President of Polestar China in March.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“I am delighted to be part of this exciting electrification journey with Polestar as we become an important force in the automotive industry’s evolution in China,”[/perfectpullquote] says August Wu.
As August Wu expressed, the new President of Polestar China, the company sees the big potential of the Chinese market for electric vehicles, thus they are committed to the Chinese market.
Polestar has gained a strong brand perception and increasing popularity since it’s launch last October.
Following this event, the production facility construction for Polestar initialized in Chengdu, China, and planned to be completed till the end of 2018, where all Polestar vehicles will be produced for all the global orders.
And as a future plan, recently, performance department of Volvo has announced that Polestar will be a standalone brand on its own to produce performance all-electric cars rather than hybrid ones.
Different Approach to Car Ownership
Development manager August Wu plans a new approach to the delivery system – Polestar retail network for customers which is called Polestar space.
The company is planning to change the entire idea of owning a car. Rather than typically buy and drive model, the customers will be offered plans ranging from 1 to 3 year fixed contracts with monthly payments. This contracts will include car’s warranty, insurance, maintenance, depreciation and all other extras will be included in this monthly fee.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]“Polestar engagement will be digital and our cars will be offered primarily on a subscription basis. With one monthly payment covering all of the traditional costs associated with car ownership, we enable the customer to focus on the enjoyment of driving. We believe that this will help Polestar form a new relationship between ourselves and our customers,”[/perfectpullquote] concludes August Wu.
The Polestar 1 is an Electric Performance Hybrid GT which is a combination of ICE (internal combustion engine) and electric motor.
While conventional engine powers the front wheels, a 34 kWh battery pack which ensures a 150 km pure electric drive (longest distance among hybrid systems in the world), powers a double electric rear axle drive system for rear wheels.
This hybrid drive system delivers a remarkable 600 hp and 1,000 Nm of torque.
Do you think Polestar can take on Tesla with this new retail system and price/performance values?
